Offboarding

Human Resources is available to help both managers and employees work together to ensure a smooth transition. As soon as you are made aware of a departure, please be sure to reach out to your HR representative. Included below is a general overview of Harvard Library's processes and resources for offboarding.

  • Ask the employee for official notice of the departure in writing.
  • Review the Offboarding Checklist for Managers
  • Fill out and submit the HL/HCL offboarding form — this will trigger notifications to various departments (i.e. HUIT, Communications, etc.) to complete necessary offboarding steps.
  • Ensure your departing employee schedules a visit to campus to clear out their office space.
  • Complete this brief Departure Announcement form so that we may recognize your departing employee(s) on our Comings & Goings site.
  • Discuss with the departing employee and HUIT the options for returning Harvard-owned equipment and property — a HUIT field tech will reach out to schedule a Zoom meeting with you and the departing employee for this discussion.
