Rewards and Recognition

Harvard encourages employee recognition at all levels — for big accomplishments, service milestones, and everyday contributions that make a difference to others. This page contains information on some of the ways employees are recognized, through University-wide programs and more locally. You can also read more about these initiatives on HARVie.

Harvard Heroes

The Harvard Heroes program celebrates the accomplishments of staff whose work supports the mission of Harvard at the highest levels of contribution, impact, and excellence.

Service Milestones

Harvard recognizes five-year service anniversaries to express appreciation for its talented staff. When they reach a service milestone, honorees receive an award booklet from which they can choose an anniversary gift. The University also provides certain benefits and perks as employees attain significant milestones.

Giving Thanks

Several Giving Thanks initiatives are organized in November, with refreshments served at various locations across campus. As part of this celebration, staff are encouraged to write notes of thanks to their colleagues in recognition of their work and support.

Local Celebrations and Gifts

Teams are encouraged to recognize and celebrate work-related achievements. For more information, see the HL Bonus and Financial Recognition Guidelines and Gifts and Celebrations Guidelines.
