Library Staff Affinity Groups

Disability & Neurodivergence Affinity Group

Charge: The Harvard Library Disability and Neurodivergence Affinity Group (HLDNAG) provides a space where Harvard Library staff can come together to build community, provide resources, and share our experience living with disabilities. We seek to foster a supportive environment and welcome disabled individuals, individuals who are not sure whether they identify with a particular label, and those who would like to learn more about disability and all it encompasses.

Transgender Advocacy Group

Charge: The Harvard Library Staff Transgender Advocacy Group (HLSTAG) would cultivate a long-established need for intersectionality, inclusiveness, advocacy, leadership for Harvard staff who identify as transgender, gender non-conforming, and/or as trans advocates/allies. In addition to ongoing planning and resource sharing meetings, HLSTAG would curate events featuring speakers including authors, podcast hosts, scholars, curators, teachers, career development professionals. 

Working Parents Affinity Group

Charge: To provide a space for Harvard staff with children at home for connection, sharing resources and tips, solidarity, and support. 

Latin Staff Affinity Group

Charge: To promote the interests of Latine staff through programming that promotes Latin American issues and discussion on elevating the experiences of Latines within the Library and Harvard University more broadly

First Gen, Low Income and Rural Staff Affinity Group

Charge: The charge of this group is to create a safe space to share lived experiences of folks with historically limited access resources and the opportunities generally associated with financial resources. Group members can share their own experiences with other members as a way to feel heard and validated within a culture primarily focused on privilege. The group will hold educational sessions for Library colleagues, but the primary focus is toward supporting other First Generation, Low Income, and Rural students at Harvard.

 Black-Identified Staff Affinity Group

Charge: Build safe and brave community for Black-identified staff, to host educational programing for professional development, and build a networking opportunities and socializing for Blackidentified staff. This group will empower Black staff at Harvard by creating a sense of community. This group has the potential to help retain talented Black library staff

BIPOC Staff Affinity Group

Charge: To provide a space for library staff who self identify as people of color to network, share resources, develop programming, and increase a sense of belonging in the Harvard community.  

Invisible Illness Affinity Group

Charge: “Invisible illness” is an umbrella term that encompasses a significant number of disabling conditions, typically chronic illnesses, that can’t be detected at first glance, such as: Autoimmune disorders (e.g., Rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus, Hashimoto’s), Diabetes, Epilepsy, Long Covid, ME/CFS, Chronic digestive disorders, Lyme Disease, Chronic lung disease, Addison’s, Fibromyalgia, Immunodeficiency/Immunocompromise, Cushing’s, mental health conditions, chronic pain, sleep disorders, and many more. This group will provide a brave space for those with invisible illness to openly discuss issues facing them, where they can be heard and feel a sense of belonging.
